      How the rules work

The Danish public holidays are New Year's Day, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Ascension Day, Whit Sunday, Whit Monday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Great Prayer Day (store bededag) was abolished as a public holiday from 1 January 2024. Constitution Day (5 June), 1 May, Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve are not statutory public holidays, but many people have the day off under a collective agreement or other arrangement. They therefore count as working days here.

Working days are Monday to Friday, except public holidays. Both dates are included when you count working days between two dates.

When do the movable public holidays fall?

Easter Sunday is the first Sunday after the first full moon after the spring equinox, so it can fall between 22 March and 25 April. The other movable public holidays are counted from Easter Sunday: Maundy Thursday 3 days before, Good Friday 2 days before, Easter Monday 1 day after, Ascension Day 39 days after, Whit Sunday 49 days after and Whit Monday 50 days after.

      Great Prayer Day (store bededag)

The government has said that Great Prayer Day will be reintroduced as a public holiday from 2030. As of November 2026 this has not been passed, so the calculator does not show it. For the same reason you can only choose years up to and including 2029.
